Paying Attention to Signs

It seems I'm very good at telling others to pay attention to the signs around them, but not so good at paying attention to signs around me. Unfortunately, it took a major sign to slow me down recently.
Let me start at the beginning. I was supposed to go to a book signing in Gatlinburg back in January. My gut told me not to go. I didn't listen. Then, my friend that was supposed to go along with me was unable to go. I still didn't listen. I slipped on the ice in my driveway the weekend before. I still didn't listen. My books didn't arrive, and I spent an hour on the phone with Amazon with the promise they would be delivered the day before I was supposed to leave. I still didn't listen. So, on the coldest morning of the winter thus far, I made my way out to the car to start it before work only to take a face plant in the drive and fractured my eye socket. Trip canceled. A lot of trouble...and pain...would have been avoided if I'd have just paid attention to that first sign.
I'm not sure how you all feel about guardian angels or protection guides, but I truly believe they are around us to be our personal bodyguards watching over us so that we don't go back to spirit before we are supposed to. For some reason, I was not supposed to go to Tennessee that weekend, and they made sure I was unable to do so when I didn't listen to those first few signs. I guess what I'm saying here is that when you can't find your keys and it makes you run just a few minutes late, it was probably for a reason. So, don't stress over it. Your guardian angel or your protection guide was sending you a subtle message to wait for some reason.
I remember listening to a CD of Sylvia Browne a few years back where she talked about taking our exit. That we preplan before we ever incarnate here to our human form when and how we will take our exit. And, she said that we preplan for three of those exits and can choose whichever one we need to take. Perhaps that means that when we have had enough and want to throw in the towel, we can. However, remember, if we don't learn the lesson we came here to learn, we are destined to repeat the class so to speak.
That leads me to one more topic this time. Why do we always attract the same type of difficult people into our lives? Same story. it's because when we encountered a "type" of person that we were supposed to learn a lesson from and we don't pay attention, another person of the same "type" is going to come along, and they will keep coming along until we learn the lesson we are supposed to learn. And, in my experience, those lessons get a little bit harder each time. Better off paying attention and learning the first time around.
With that, I'm going to go take some time to meditate before bedtime. Pay attention, learn those lessons, and avoid repeats. Namaste.
