Being the Bigger Person as a Witch

Today's post is just a continuation of last week for the most part. However, I am going to speak today about something a little crow told me. Apparently, there is some sort of storm brewing in Pickens, SC. Something to do with a local church group up in arms over a local group of practicing witches.
Here's my take on this... First of all...what business is it of a local church group to make it their mission to 'save' a group of practicing witches? Oh, I know, you truly believe that these human beings with free will are going to burn in hell, right? So, you want to keep them from that fate. Well, here's a news flash...there is no such thing as hell unless you want to refer to the environment you are creating for a group of people you just don't agree with. Of course, there's a lot of that going around these days.
Hell is a construct of the Christian religion which--if I must remind you--was created by MAN to control the thoughts and actions and behavior of fellow human beings. So, contrary to what you've been spoon fed by your church leaders who are fellow humans, nobody is going to burn anywhere as long as you keep your lighters and pitchforks to yourselves. I thought we were long past the days of burning witches, but it seems that y'all are attempting to revive that practice even though not literally. Unless one of your members goes off the deep end and takes it that way.
Think back over your history. The Appalachian Region had roots in folk medicine and herbal cures. Referred to as Appalachian folk magic or granny magic and kitchen witchery, your very roots in that region were filled with this. And guess what it really was? A combination of Protestant Christianity, Native American teachings, Celtic and African rituals and traditions all boiled down to what is referred to as earth magic. Back before there were snake oil salesmen all the way up to modern medicine and the poisons of the pharmaceutical industry, your ancestors were healed by this very type of people you are harassing and saying must be saved. At one time, they were the ones doing the saving and had they not been, some of you wouldn't even be here today.
With that said, I'm hearing that groups of witches across the country are up in arms with their hearts in the right place to defend our brothers and sisters. But what purpose will that serve at this point? Sounds like a perfect storm brewing that will only cause more discord. Sure, I commend you for wanting to stand up for what we believe in and to defend and protect our ways and preserve our traditions, but what will that really do? At this point, there is nothing you can do or say that is going to change anyone's minds, just like they are not going to change theirs.
With all that said, the key here is peace. It's demonstrating that what they think we are and what we do is not who we are at all. They think us evil and wicked because they have been taught that by religious zealots through the years. What if we show them that we are the bigger person. The better people. The people who cherish the earth, who know there is magic in energy, who believe that all creatures great and small deserve their place on this place we call earth. Our home until we transition back to spirit at the end of our human learning experience. Ignore their ignorance and raise our heads high because we know who we are and what we are.
Now, I'm not saying there aren't darker forces in our ranks that use the knowledge of earth and energy magic to do things wicked or evil. but that's in every group and community throughout history. It's why we've had wars fought and terrorism wrought over our world. That's called balance. Balance between good and evil.
Which brings me to this. If we react in a way that creates more hatred and discourse, we have moved that balance to more evil than good. So, what do we do? We use our knowledge to protect our brothers and sisters from where we are. We don't storm in like a bunch of rabid wolves and create more discord. We show the religious zealots that they are WRONG. by not reacting the way they would expect us to. I will be lighting a candle on my altar for the protection of our witch friends and I will be murmuring a spell to bind the zealots from doing harm. I am going to be the better witch...the better person...the peace-loving human I was created to be. I'm going to honor the earth and its creatures by doing good.
That's my opinion and approach...and if you don't agree with me...that's okay too...we are all entitled to be who we are and believe what we want. It's what makes the world what it is. I choose to make it better.
Blessed be to you all...and help the zealots realize they are wrong.
