The Hunter's Moon and Celtic Tradition

The October full moon, often referred to as the Hunter's Moon or Blood Moon, holds significant meaning in Celtic traditions. Occurring on October 26, 2026, this full moon marks a time of transition, reflection, and preparation for the winter months ahead.

In Celtic tradition, the Hunter's Moon is named for the time when hunters would prepare for the winter by hunting game to stockpile food. This moon signifies abundance and the gathering of resources, as well as a connection to the natural cycles of life and death.

Celtic traditions often involve various rituals and celebrations during the full moon. Here are some key practices associated with the October full moon: Much like we do today, communities would come together for harvest festivals. It was a time to celebrate the harvest.

People would gather under the full moon around a bonfire to share stories, songs, and dances, fostering a sense of community and connection. They would also perform rituals of divination as the Pagan year was coming to an end. It was a time to reflect on one's personal journey over the preceding month and look toward the future year.

Connection to Nature

The October full moon is also a time to honor the natural world. In Celtic traditions, the moon is seen as a powerful symbol of femininity and intuition. It is a time to reflect on the cycles of nature and one’s personal journey.

This full moon also serves as a precursor to Samhain, the Celtic festival that marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. It is believed that the veil between the worlds is thinnest during this time, making it an ideal moment for connecting with ancestors and honoring those who have passed. I have found that my own clairvoyance is very strong during this time as we move toward Samhain.

Next week is a very busy week for me as I prepare for our bookstore's Halloween/Samhain celebration. I will be joining a group of paranormal investigators for a panel discussion as well as reading my first children's story at the event. I just released my first non-fiction book I'm Not Crazy...I'm Clairvoyant two weeks ago and am taking orders for signed copies. If you would like a copy, please send an email to teresa.keefer.author@hotmail.com with your name (or if a gift the name of the recipient), shipping address and email address so that I can invoice you. The next batch is not due in until mid-November, but they will be here in time for holiday gifting.

Join me next Friday for a journey into Celtic Samhain!!
